According to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) technical committee 104, containers should meet the following conditions: (1) long-term Reuse, with sufficient strength. (2) goods in transit can be changed directly without moving the boxes. (3) rapid loading and unloading can be carried out and direct and convenient transfer from one means of transport to another. (4) to facilitate the loading and unloading of goods empty. (5) having a volume of 1 cubic metre (i.e. 35.32 cubic feet) or more. A large container that meets the above five conditions is called a container. The goods can be loaded directly in the shipper’s warehouse and unloaded in the Consignee’s warehouse. When changing vehicles or ships, it is not necessary to take the goods out of the box. So the container is a great invention. The biggest success of container lies in the standardization of its products and the whole set of transportation system established from it. It is one of the Great Wonders of human history that we can standardize a huge thing that can carry dozens of tons and gradually realize the logistics system of ships, ports, routes, highways, transfer stations, bridges, tunnels and multimodal transport all over the world.
